Description

Tumbi, also known as Ik Taara is a small instrument with a wooden tumba and a single string supported on a wooden stick. This instrument has always been associated with the folk music. It is popularly used in Bangladesh, India, Egypt and Pakistan in traditional Music.

It consists of a stretched single string, animal skin over head and pole neck. It is commonly used in Kirtan chanting, By Sadhus, by wandering holy man and in Sufi sangeet. A true tumbi player can leave the audience mesmerized with the flick of his forefingers - as this is how the instrument is played.
Tumbi we are providing here has been crafted out from Tun wood and contains only one brass string.
