Description

The Rigveda is the result of the efforts of 414 Rishis (saints). All these Rishis contributed their Mantras on wide range of topics, popularly knows as Devatas. All the other Vedas are based upon it. It is built around a science of sound which comprehends the meaning and power of each letter. Most aspects of Vedic science like the practice of yoga, meditation, mantra and Ayurveda can be found in the Rig Veda and still use many terms that come from it.The book contains Sanskrit text with English translation and notes for easy reading. This translation is also based upon Sayana. A German scholar H. Oldenberg also published his translation of RV. From Berlin in two volumes in 1909-12. This translation is also very thought-provoking and may be called as critical one so far as the references of other translators on each and every hymn are concerned. This is all about what the occidental scholars did. To sum up it can be said that only two bhasyas dominate the domain of Vedic exegesis, one by Sayana and other by Dayananda. H.H. Wilson put his efforts to produce Sayana's Sanskrit Bhasya into English in an excellent way. So the author of present lines thought it imperative to include his translation for his edition of RV, so that the English readers will be able to acquaint themselves with the intent of Sayana's bhasya and thereby the literal intent of the RV.
