Vishnu Purana is the most ancient of all the Puranas and has got the name Puranaratna (gem of Puranas). This is one of the most important of all the Puranas.This deals with the events of Varahakalpa and contains twenty-three thousand slokas. The theme is the ten incarnations of MahaVishnu.The Vishnu Purana is one of the oldest of the Puranas (dating to maybe the 5th century), containing some 23,000 shlokas, presented as a dialogue between Parasara with his disciple Maitreya.
The Vishnu Purana has twenty-three thousand shlokas divided into six major sections or amshas.
