The Srimad Devi Bhagavatam, on the basis of its order, style and theme belongs to the genre of Mahapuranas, in spite of its exclusion from the original list of the Mahapuranas. It is to the Saktas what Srimad Devi Bhagavatam is to Vaisnavas. Opinions about the date of its composition vary; however it can be safely said that it attained its present shape sometime during the eleventh century AD.
